Goals crucial in Limericks win over Cork

Cork 0-18 Limerick 3-17

Goals were to prove crucial for Limerick in this Munster Hurling League match against Cork in Mallow.

They got off the blocks strongly with three Declan Hannon frees and points from play for Cian Lynch and Graeme Mulcahy with a two point return from Patrick Cronin in the first 10 minutes.

Conor Lehane scored next with a Cork point with Lynch and Mulcahy for Limerick scoring a point each. Then came the first of the three Limerick goals after a great run and pass to Mulcahy who finished well.

Points from Hannon and Lynch stretched Limericks lead out to 9 points 1-9 to 0-3 before frees from Paudie O’Sullivan and points for William Leahy closed the gap. A late Hannon free made it 0-7 to 1-11 at the break.

Cork started the second half brightly with points from Lehane, O’Sullivan, Leahy and substitute Patrick Horgan.

However Limerick who were now against the wind responded first with a Hannon free and then a goal from the same player to restore Limerick’s two-goal advantage.

Points from Cronin, O’Sullivan (65) and Paul Haughney closed the gap again leaving it 2-13 to 0-15 at the end of the third quarter.

However a goal for Darragh O’Donovan put the result beyond doubt with a late Lehane point being the only other score for the rest of the match.
